LATEST FROM INSIDE THE FAA– PROPOSED COMMERCIAL SMALL UAV RULE TO BE RESTRICTIVE
According recent reportage from the Wall Street Journal, the FAA’s proposed small UAV rule will be coming shortly, and will do away entirely with the sub 4.4 lb. category. Well-founded rumors are that the FAA plans to regulate all commercial UAV operations under 55 lbs. in one category with one set of rules. Well-founded rumors also indicate that these rules will include line of sight operation, under 400 feet altitude and here is the tough one– the requirement that the commercial UAV pilot be also a licensed fixed wing aircraft pilot. Please bear in mind that these are only proposed rules which will be open for a comment period from affected parties and public. We will keep you posted, including how and where you can register your comments with the FAA.
